On December 9, 2024, the Academic Advisory Panel for BC’s Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) was officially launched, bringing together participants, including leading researchers, government representatives, and DRRN members.
The panel aims to provide expert guidance on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience across BC. Members will contribute expertise in areas like geohazards, structural engineering, wildfire management, and environmental humanities. They will also help shape the ministry's values-based approach to disaster risk assessment and regional planning, as outlined in the Disaster and Climate Risk Reduction Assessment (DCRRA).

This collaboration reflects EMCR's commitment to integrating academic expertise into provincial disaster management strategies, fostering innovation in risk governance, infrastructure resilience, and community preparedness.
Panel members will dedicate time to consultations and technical guidance, ensuring actionable input for policy design and disaster response. This launch marks a significant step in strengthening ties between academia and government for a safer, more resilient BC.
To highlight the valuable contributions of the panelists, DRRN will actively promote its members, their groundbreaking research, and their expertise. This ensures that the public and policymakers alike recognize the critical role of academic research in shaping disaster and climate risk reduction strategies.
