Title:
Growing Resilience and Adaptive Capacity with LGBTQ2S+ Communities on the Oregon Coast: A Queer Community Capital Framework
Speaker:
Network member Natasha Fox
Postdoctoral Scholar, Cascadia Coastlines and Peoples Hazards Research Hub, Oregon State University
Abstract:
This project explores potential logics and processes at work in the production of “queer community capital” and its relationship to acute hazard adaptation and resilience, through community engaged research on the Oregon coast. Using a mixed methods participatory approach, including fostering of trust-based community research partnerships, co-developing community surveys, semi-structured interviews, and other methods, the project extends the concept of social capital toward developing LGBTQ2S+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, 2-Spirit, and other sexual and gender-diverse) resilience and community adaptive capacity to acute coastal hazards.
When?
3:30 - 5:00 PM | Wednesday, February 1
Where?
On Zoom
The idea for this year's seminar series is to encourage DRRN members to share their work and how it relates to the network. In this spirit, members will consider how to share their work accessibly to a transdisciplinary audience with a shared interest in disaster research. This will be a great chance to learn what other members are up to, while communicating our very different forms of knowledge to a diverse academic audience.
The seminars will be 1-1.5 hours, with talks lasting 30-40 minutes, leaving plenty of time for Q & A and discussion. While we encourage in-person attendance as conditions allow, we will be holding the seminars in a hybrid format, in order to provide for virtual participation, as well.
